Shopping local should not cost you more than shopping out of town. So there are two ways SHOCAL pays you back, and they work differently on purpose: points build up across everything you order, and stamp cards reward you for going back to the same shop.
Both run in the SHOCAL app, and you do not have to opt in to either.
SHOCAL Points, on every order
You earn 5 points for every £1 you spend, on any order of £1 or more. Points are worked out on the basket itself, so it is the goods you are being rewarded for and not the delivery charge.
100 points is £1. Once you reach 500 points, which is £5, you can start spending them. You will find your balance under SHOCAL Points in your profile, along with every point you have earned and what you have done with it.
Spending them
At the checkout you can put your points towards the order and pay the rest on your card. The total drops by whatever the points are worth before you pay, so what you are charged is what you see. If an order you paid for with points is refunded, the points come back to you as points.
The small print, in plain English
- Points land when the order is complete and delivered, not when you place it.
- A cancelled order does not earn points.
- Points last 90 days from the day you earn them, and the oldest are always spent first.
- Event tickets do not earn points.
The full terms are on our legal page, and the same rules are written into the app on the Points screen.
Stamp cards, for the shop you keep going back to
A stamp card is the shop's own reward, set by the shop and paid for by the shop. Order from them enough times and you get money off there. It is the paper card in a cafe window, without the card.
Sherbet in Urmston is a good example: three orders over £20 gets you £5 off. The card sits on their shop page in the app, so you can see how many stamps you have and how many are left before you go anywhere near the checkout.
Every shop sets its own, so the numbers differ. What is always true:
- A stamp needs an order over that shop's minimum, and it is the basket that counts.
- You get 30 days to fill the card, and once it is full, 30 days to spend the reward.
- The reward comes off your order at that shop, and nowhere else.
- You collect one card at a time per shop. Spend the reward and a new card starts.
Shops running one at the moment include Sherbet, Darrens Family Butchers, Griddle and Grind and Flowers By Siobhan, and more are adding them.
Which is which
Points are ours and they follow you everywhere: spend across ten different shops and it all counts towards the same balance. Stamps belong to one shop and are funded by that shop, which is why they tend to be worth more per order.
You do not have to choose between them or remember any of it. The app keeps count, shows you where you are, and tells you when there is something to spend.
Getting started
Both live in the app. Download SHOCAL for iPhone or Android, put your postcode in, and you will start earning on your first order.
